Innovation and Technology Support Programme (ITSP)


ITSP supports midstream/downstream research and development (R&D) projects undertaken mainly by universities, R&D Centres, industry support organisations, professional bodies and trade and industry associations. ITSP invites applications for funding every six months or so. The second round of funding applications for 2014 under Tier 2 and Tier 3 of the ITSP is now open for application.

The deadline for application is September 30th, 2014.

Einstein Professorship Program

The Einstein Professorship Program is a key initiative of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Einstein Professorships will be awarded each year to 20 distinguished international scientists actively working at the frontiers of science and technology, for conducting lecture-tours to China.

The goals of the program are to:
- Strengthen science and technology links, cooperation and exchange between CAS scientists and respective Einstein Professors and their laboratories, and
- Enhance the training of future generations of scientists in China.

The deadline for application is October 31st, 2014

CAS President's International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI)

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) offers a package of international fellowships, collectively called the “CAS President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI)”, to support highly-qualified international scientists and postgraduate students to work and study at CAS institutions and strengthen their scientific collaboration with CAS researchers. The PIFI program is available for four categories of international researchers and students: distinguished scientists, visiting scientists, postdoctoral researchers and international PhD students.

Getting Involved
    Generally speaking, the applicant will be required to fill in a standard application form designated by the national agency managing the programme, and submit it with the required documents to the secretariat of the national agency or a host organization of the funding programme.    
Innovation and Technology Support Programme (ITSP)

Applications of Tier 2 and Tier 3 projects must be submitted to the ITF Secretariat either:
a. In hard copy in triplicate (one original plus two duplicate copies) in person or by post. Please also kindly provide a soft copy (preferably in MS Word 2003 or above), together with an application datasheet (available with the application forms); or
b. Through the https://www3.itf.gov.hk/?itf_lng=en

Einstein Professorship Program

Applications for this program are to be submitted by CAS institutes. If more than one institute is involved in a visit, the application should be submitted by the main host institute.

All applications must include:
a. General background information about the candidate.
b. An academic profile including a curriculum vitae, a list of refereed publications for the past 5 years, and the academic standing of the candidate.
c. A detailed description of the proposed lecture-tour to China including the timetable, expected outcomes, details of the existing collaboration with the host institute(s), and the host institute’s contact information.

All applications and supporting documents should be submitted to the Bureau of International Cooperation, CAS by the end of October each year.


CAS President's International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI)

Applications for category D must be accepted by the CAS host supervisor. Application CANNOT be submitted to both UCAS and USTC at the same time.

a. Identify an eligible host supervisor affiliated with UCAS/USTC universities, schools or CAS institutes, and send an explanatory e-mail together with the CV and research proposal.
