China Prosperity Projects and Targeted Bidding Round 2013-2014

   
   

The Prosperity SPF Fund supports policy projects aimed at promoting sustainable global growth. Following a call for proposals last November, over 40 new projects are launched in 2013-14 which are expected to produce real, measureable outcomes in the following areas: financial sector reform, to liberalise and open markets in China; structural reform, to rebalance China’s economy towards consumer spending and business and service sectors; business environment, making China a better place for domestic and foreign firms to do business, and breaking down barriers to trade and investment; energy security, to make China’s energy use more efficient and sustainable; low carbon/climate change, to reduce China’s carbon emissions growth. Applications must be received by the RGC by 31 May 2013.

2013 Germany/Hong Kong Joint Research Scheme
   
   

The Research Grants Council (RGC) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) invite applications for the Germany / Hong Kong Joint Research Scheme 2013/14 exercise. Launched in 1996, the Scheme aims to promote research collaboration between Hong Kong and Germany by providing researchers in the two places with one-year or two-year travel grants.As in the 2012/13 exercise, the Hong Kong Principal Investigators could use the RGC grants to support justified research visits of research postgraduate students to partner institutions, in order to enhance the students' training and opportunities for overseas experience. The budget for the 2013/14 exercise is HK$1.2 million. The grant size for the travel grants is HK$45,000 per year for projects involving travel of research postgraduate student(s) and HK$30,000 per year for projects not involving students' travel. Applications must be received by the RGC by 17 June 2013.

Shanghai 2013 S&T Innovation Action Plan International Cooperation Programme
   
   

The Shanghai S&T Innovation Action Plan International Cooperation Programme aims to enhance international S&T cooperation and open innovation, and accelerate S&T development and independent innovation capability of Shanghai. The programme is divided into two parts, programme between enterprises and programme between governments. The budget for programme between enterprises is no more than 2 million RMB per project, while that for programme between governments is no more than 50,000 RMB. EPSRC-NSFC Call for Collaborative Research with China on Grid Scale Energy Storage for Intermittency
   
   

EPSRC (UK) and NSFC (China) are jointly launching the call in the field of “Grid Scale Storage for Intermittency”. The priority areas for this call are advanced thermal and mechanical large scale energy storage from materials to devices; advanced electrochemical large scale storage from materials to devices; management, diagnosis and control of grid scale storage technologies; economics, policy and business models for grid scale storage; operation and control for balancing and stability of power systems with grid scale storage. Up to £5M is available from EPSRC with matched equivalent resources from NSFC (up to 3M RMB per project). Up to five projects are expected through the call. The costs of the UK institutions will be met from EPSRC funds, and those for the Chinese partners will be met by NSFC. Application deadline is 02 July, 2013

Applicants interested in applying for the Germany / Hong Kong Joint Research Scheme please note that parallel submissions of applications by the Hong Kong and the German applicants are required: Hong Kong applicants should submit their applications to the RGC through the Research Offices of respective institutions. Direct submission of applications to the RGC will not be accepted; and German applicants should submit their applications directly to the DAAD. EPSRC-NSFC Call for Collaborative Research with China on Grid Scale Energy Storage for Intermittency
   
   

Proposals are invited from leading UK researchers wishing to develop contacts and joint projects with leading researchers eligible for NSFC support in China. To be eligible for the call principal applicants must be the principal investigator or co-investigator of a current research council research grant (current at the closing date of 2 July 2013). For each project application UK proposers must submit one joint form covering all the UK partners. As this is a joint application to EPSRC and NSFC applicants must ensure that identical proposals are submitted by the closing date to both EPSRC and NSFC.
