Dragon-Star Plus will provide the EC and the Member States with tools for setting a long term cooperation strategy with China in research and innovation. The proposed activities take into account the current on-going policy dialogue and the peculiarities of the research and innovation environment in China, and are based upon the outputs and the established mechanism of the previous DRAGON-STAR project.

NSFC 3rd-Round Emergency Management Project

   
   

The Emergency Management Projects (EMP) are designed to give quick reaction to the key management problems emerged in economic, scientifice and social development and provide scientific analysis and policy suggestions to the policy makers. It is planned to have 3-5 rounds of EMPs every year. Experts from China and other countries are encouraged to make applications and hence contribute to the national strategy of China. The topic of this round of EMP is “the Impacts of the US Exit from the Paris Climate Change Agreement on Global Climate Governance and China's Coping Strategies”.

The deadline for application is July 27th, 2017

CAS President's International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI)
   
   

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) offers a package of international fellowships, collectively called the “CAS President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI)”, to support highly-qualified international scientists and postgraduate students to work and study at CAS institutions and strengthen their scientific collaboration with CAS researchers. The PIFI program is available for four categories of international researchers and students: distinguished scientists, visiting scientists, postdoctoral researchers and international PhD students.

The fellowships available for application include:

  • Category A: PIFI for Distinguished Scientists
  • Category B: PIFI for Visiting Scientists
  • Category C: PIFI for Postdoctoral Researchers


The deadline for application is September 1st, 2017

Sino-German Center for Research Promotion
   
   

The Sino-German Center for Research Promotion is jointly established by NSFC and DFG. It was put into operation on October 19, 2000. NSFC and DFG invest 10 million yuan each annually to the Center to sponsor the cooperation and exchanges between scientists from the two countries.

Funding priorities:

  • Joint research in areas of strategic importance such as new materials, information science and communication technology, nutrition research, nano-technology and microsystems, energy research, drought and environmental research, life sciences, advanced manufacture technology, transportation studies, etc.;
  • Publication of literature or research achievements obtained through bilateral cooperation;
  • Bilateral workshops;
  • Sino-German joint research groups or laboratories;
  • Small equipment specially needed for the joint research projects, and
  • Other activities identified by the Joint Committee of the Center.


The call is open throughout the year, but the application should be made at least five months before the project starts.

Getting Involved
   
    Generally speaking, the applicant will be required to fill in a standard application form designated by the national agency managing the programme, and submit it with the required documents to the secretariat of the national agency or a host organization of the funding programme.

European Innovation Scoreboard 2017 published

   
   

On June 20th, 2017, the European Commission (EC) published the European Innovation Scoreboard 2017. One of the main findings is that the EU’s innovation performance last year continued to grow, with Sweden remaining the innovation leader, while Lithuania, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria and the UK are the fastest growing innovators.
