Dragon-Star Plus will provide the EC and the Member States with tools for setting a long term cooperation strategy with China in research and innovation. The proposed activities take into account the current on-going policy dialogue and the peculiarities of the research and innovation environment in China, and are based upon the outputs and the established mechanism of the previous DRAGON-STAR project.

ESRC-NSFC Newton Call for collaborative research and networking opportunity


The ESRC and the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC) are pleased to invite proposals focusing on developing financial systems to support sustainable growth in China. The objective of this Newton Fund call will be to deliver three-year research funding for internationally competitive and innovative collaborative projects between researchers from China and the UK. The ESRC has allocated up to £2 million and NSFC has allocated 20 million RMB.

NSFC –NERC Joint Research Programme

NERC and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) are inviting proposals to the Biosphere Evolution, Transitions & Resilience (BETR) strategic research programme. The aim of the BETR programme is to advance understanding of the evolution of the biosphere by integrating excellent palaeoscience (eg palaeontology, geochemistry, geochronology and phylogenomics) and cutting edge modelling. The funders anticipate awarding three grants of up to £1.5m for the UK component and 3 million RMB for the Chinese component.

Getting Involved
    Generally speaking, the applicant will be required to fill in a standard application form designated by the national agency managing the programme, and submit it with the required documents to the secretariat of the national agency or a host organization of the funding programme.    
ESRC-NSFC Newton Call for collaborative research and networking opportunity

1. For each collaborative proposal, the UK and China lead partners should prepare a single case for support that should be submitted to both ESRC and NSFC.
2. Chinese applicants need to log in http://isisn.nsfc.gov.cn/egrantweb/ to fill the online form;
3. The UK application should be submitted through the UK Research Councils grant submission system Je-S;
