SEA-EU-NET II project is a four-year initiative funded by the European Commission FP7 to assist and encourage research cooperation between Southeast Asia and Europe as well as related policy dialogue. SEA-EU-NET II builds upon and leverages strong European – Southeast Asian science and technology (S & T) relationships, developed through past support and coordination actions, deepening engagement and building momentum in S & T cooperation focuses on three societal challenges: 1) health; 2) food security and safety; and 3) water management.

SEA-EU ALUMNI NETWORK is an Alumni network for people born in Southeast Asian countries, sharing the common experience of having participated in European study or research programme, or those who have studied in the EU through any programme. This network aims to strengthen the bi-regional collaboration of ASEAN and EU and inform the Southeast Asian research community on the Horizon 2020 programme as well as increasing the level of Southeast Asian participation in Horizon 2020.

A Message from the Coordinator

Dear SEA-EU-NET Alumni organisation coordinators and members,

Over the next couple of months, the SEA-EU-NET 2 project will organise a variety of scientific and networking events which might be interest to research and innovation stakeholders seeking to establish and intensify contacts with the partner region: Water-Energy-Food Nexus workshop in Poland (November 2016).

“Effective Proposal Preparation for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions”, (co-organised with EURAXESS Links; 18 November 2016). These events present great opportunities for research and innovation stakeholders to establish and intensify contacts with the partner region.

As a means of continuing their fruitful working relationship, the EURAXESS Links project will partner with SEA-EU-NET 2 for an upcoming training session in Jakarta, Indonesia, in November, dedicated to helping interested scientists in ASEAN to improve their chances for selection for a 2017 Marie Skłowdoska-Curie Actions (MSCA). Open to 60 participants, the workshop will be led by an experienced trainer, who will provide information on eligibility criteria and how one goes about approaching the development of a strong application for MSCA Individual Fellowships (IF). These prestigious fellowships support researchers at all stages of their careers. Furthermore, academic support staff can also benefit from this training, by learning more about MSCA RISE (Research and Innovation Staff Exchange) grants, which support staff exchanges for up to one year.

Please click here for more information on the grants. Also, check the SEA-EU-NET 2 homepage soon for updates, including agenda and information on how to apply.

In addition to playing a strong role in the support of research between Southeast Asia and Europe, the SEA-EU-NET 2 project also serves as a monitor of the outcomes of scientific and innovation activities in the two regions. Such outcomes are shared, much like other important information, via the project’s website under the section heading “Facts on STI”. Recently, information regarding STI performance in 2016 for ASEAN has been updated and uploaded to the project website! Visit the website to explore the entries for insights into how well countries in your region are performing.

With best regards from the coordinators,
Kimberly Couvson-Liebe & Christoph Elineau
